Barry Lyndon (1975)

Redmond Barry fights, charms, and strategically marries his way out of rural Ireland, into the heart of British aristocracy. Kubrick shoots Ryan O'Neal's Barry climb up the social ladder like a series of period paintings, lit in places by nothing but candlelight, which he opted to capture with lenses built originally for NASA.
