ACCESS: This is a high-quality mask-required space. KN95 or better masks are required except in designated areas for eating and drinking. The building is wheelchair accessible. Please visit our website for detailed accessibility information, including information about the building, before attending. Please email general@cuentame.info with any access questions. Please see below for event specific descriptions: Grief, Joy, and the Possibilities of Access A conversation with Simi Linton and Yewande Komolafe In this conversation Simi Linton invites Yewande Komolafe to reflect on personal experiences with disability, including the anger and grief that arise when medical systems fail to adequately support disabled people, alongside the hope, joy, and possibility found in access-centered and disability-led spaces. Together, they will explore what it means to navigate an inaccessible world and how disability community, creativity, and collective care can foster new ways of connecting and being together. The conversation will hold space for the complexities of these experiences while also celebrating the possibilities and futures that disabled people continue to create. Yewande will also share a new piece of writing as part of the event. SICK CHOIR an interdependent vocal workshop. An explorative experience of voice, centering access. We will work within the boundaries of each of our natural and comfortable voices, using communal drone, intimate paired harmony and our best tuned-in listening to make beautiful and surprising music together. Convened by the Sick Music Center, we’ll be led by a series of exercises and songs from sick and disabled musicians (Anna RG, Anna Witiuk, Michael Genese, with more to be announced!), for an hour of singing, humming, and listening together, no experience required.
