Groove Obscura presents Book of Salomon. Salomon Faye made a decision most artists no longer make. Book of Salomon was never uploaded anywhere. It exists only as one hundred vinyl copies, and on July 13 we play one of them front to back. Unless you own a copy, a session like this is the only place the album can reach you. The record traces Salomon’s own geography through New York, Paris, and Senegal. Hip hop sits at its root, blossoming outward into a fusion of rap, rock, and trip hop, threaded with traditional Senegalese khassidas. This session will not be pitch black. Projections accompany the album from start to finish, followed by a Q&A with Salomon Faye and Arjun Shah. ~~~~ Founded by Arjun Shah, Groove Obscura is an experiential platform dedicated to uncovering and contextualizing music from around the world. Groove Obscura takes physical form at the Silence Please Listening Space through communal album listening. Each session explores original pressings of music from around the world, played front to back on a high-fidelity system, preceded by historical and musical context to set the stage for a deep, undisturbed listen. Sessions are often held in pitch black for pure sonic immersion. Salomon Faye is a Senegalese American hip-hop recording artist and songwriter hailing from the diverse cultural hub of Harlem, New York. With a unique sound that blends elements of spoken word, soul, and jazz, Salomon has garnered attention from music critics and fans alike for his introspective lyricism and thoughtful social commentary. Drawing inspiration from his multicultural background and upbringing in the melting pot of New York City, Salomon’s music tells a story of self-discovery, identity, and the struggles of modern life. With an impressive discography and a passion for using his platform to bring awareness to social issues, Salomon Faye is an artist to watch in the hip-hop scene
