Special thanks to [**Blanc Studios**](https://www.instagram.com/blancstudiosny/) a Black-owned production studio based in LIC. **Exhibition Description**: At the heart of nightlife are DJs that hold the power to transform rooms into entirely different spaces through sound, time, and feeling. For many Black patrons, these rooms become havens where genres typically reserved for family backyard parties and the depths of their digital catalogue take center stage, from Dancehall, Soca, and Lovers Rock to to Afrobeats, Alté, House, Neo-soul and more. Hand selected and experienced by Hewitt herself, these are just some of the many DJs and collectives who have created safe spaces for diasporic music to thrive, holding cultural storytelling at the forefront and using their sets to both sooth the soul and introduce audiences to new sounds. **Bio:** Denise Stephanie Hewitt is a [photographer](https://www.instagram.com/thedenisestephanie/), [Forbes 30 Under 30](https://www.forbes.com/profile/denise-hewitt/?list=30under30-art-style/) lister, Gordon Parks Foundation Scholar born and raised in Brooklyn dedicating her lens to memorializing the impact and prowess of change makers in arts, culture, and entertainment. Shooting her first magazine cover at 17 for Marie Claire, to shooting the Met Gala for 5 consecutive years and becoming the youngest to be commissioned by Vogue to do so, she has cemented herself as a rising creative voice of her generation.
