In his recently published memoir *Rise Above*, Matthew Schnipper writes a searing account of the sudden death of his son and his subsequent attempt to find meaning in a world where music, a lifelong North Star, has ceased to resonate. In conversation with Emily Witt, author of Health and Safety, a memoir about techno, political upheaval, and personal transformation, the authors will discuss art, trauma, and whether writing can make sense of loss. Matthew Schnipper is the culture editor of WNYC/Gothamist and writes the newsletter Deep Voices. Emily Witt is a contributing writer at The New Yorker and the author of the books *Health and Safety* and *Future Sex*. \- RSVPs are good for one per person but do not guarantee entry.
