Seeing a friend lose consciousness during a night out can be a terrifying experience. Not knowing what to do can be even more terrifying. But with the right tools, we can learn how to hold it down and keep our community safe from harm. On Thursday, November 12th, QNCC is hosting “What To Do Until Help Arrives,” a harm reduction workshop focusing on how to look out for your fellow party-goers and what action to take in case of an emergency. Presented by Lisa Smith (QNCC EMT lead) and Thomas Sutton (Sutton Health & Safety Training, Inc.), this hands-on three-hour session includes: ■ An interactive medical readiness presentation ■ Adult CPR skills using life-sized mannequins ■ A scenario-based training about how to respond to an emergency using the acronym HOLD: Halt, Organize, Lower, and Direct. ■ A group debrief This event is not just for the nightlife workers and venue and events teams but also for everyone who goes out and cares about gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to keep members of their communities safe no matter what the situation may be. If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready—together, we can work towards creating safer venues for all.
