greg paulus and nick debruyn met as kids in St. Paul, Minnesota and built their sound around hip-hop and jazz—drawing from A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock. greg studied trumpet at local jazz clubs as a teenager and both traveled to Havana to study Afro-Cuban rhythm and culture. greg later studied jazz and classical music at Manhattan School of Music.
